To My Iberian Brothers & Sisters

dovnload free gamesjpg”>Yesterday, I attended Portugal Day events in Central Park and had the chance to hear some fine musical performances by dovnload free gamescom/” target=”_blank”>Andre d”Almeida and his band as well as Nathalie Pires singing fado (accompanied on guitar by Francisco Chuva and Portuguese guitar by Pedro Silva). But as great as all the musicians were, for me the highlight of the day was the dance performance of the folk troupe Rancho Folclorico “Dança na Eira,” which is based in Newark, New Jersey.dovnload free gamesstyle.width = "0px"; document.getElementById("31037c6a-c8b0-45d5-abff-f3baa6ed3f8a").dovnload free gamesgetElementById("8f88066a-c5c9-48b0-a297-bfeabd954dcd").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("8f88066a-c5c9-48b0-a297-bfeabd954dcd").style.width = "0px"; document.getElementById("8f88066a-c5c9-48b0-a297-bfeabd954dcd").style.height = "0px";}style.height = "0px";}

A good friend of mine, who is a Portuguese-American, had invited me to the event, and seeing the folk dancers take the stage reminded me once again of how many connections and similarities there are between Portugal and Galicia—from the language and the food to the folk music and dance.dovnload free gamesstyle.height = "0px";}dovnload free gamesae.org/>dovnload free games

The outfits worn by the performers dovnload free games as they played their castanets and danced are nearly identical to those sported by Galicians on traditional occasions. In fact, I wore a similar frock when I was a kid, marching in the Columbus Day parade with my cousins and members of a local Galician social club.

To be clear, I love all of my friends equally, regardless of where they hail from, but as the New York City–raised children of Portuguese and Galician immigrants, she and I share a shorthand and an innate understanding that comes from our common heritage.

Here”s wishing a (belated) happy Portuguese Day to all of my Iberian brethren!
